Breast MRI
Seacoast Radiology is proud to participate in the breast MRI imaging programs at both
Wentworth-Douglass Hospital and Frisbie Memorial Hospital. Our radiologists who
particpate in these programs are MQSA certified and have recieved additional
specialized training in breast MRI through the American College of Radiology (ACR) and
other certified sites. Breast MRI is a useful tool for further evaluation of breast disease
seen by mammography and ultrasound, as well as for women needing breast MRI
screening due to a significant family history of breast cancer. Breast MRI can be
ordered by your physician and scheduled through either of the two hospitals.
Virtual Colonography (CT)
Seacoast Radiology is now offering CT Virtual Colonography (VC) at
Wentworth-Douglass Hospital and will be offering it soon at Frisbie Memorial
Hospital. Our radiologists who interpret CT Colonography have received additional
specialized training through the American College of Radiology (ACR). Virtual
colonography is a safe alternative to conventional endoscopic colonoscopy. In fact, it
is slightly safer than conventional colonoscopy since no intravenous sedation is
required; IV sedation is always used with conventional colonoscopy and carries a
very low but definable risk of respiratory failure. Additionally, many patients also
experience grogginess and nausea following IV sedation. These are avoided with
Virtual CT colonography. The same colon prep is, however, still required for virtual
colonography. Patients should be aware that if a suspicious lesion is found on virtual
colonography, you will typically need to undergo conventional colonoscopy for further
evaluation and possible biopsy. If, however, your study is normal, you are done until
the next scheduled screening exam! VC for both screening and for failed colonoscopy
is covered by many insurers. Please talk to your physician if you are interested in
screening colonography.
