Breast Imaging Specialists

Led by fellowship trained breast imaging specialists Dr. Eva Lizer, Dr. Rishi Arya, and Dr. Christine Anzalone, the breast imaging section of Seacoast Radiology provides services at Women’s Life Imaging Center in Somersworth, NH and at the Wentworth Douglass Breast Health Center at Pease, in Portsmouth, NH. Our team is trained to provide the most advanced breast imaging care including 3D mammography/ tomosynthesis, diagnostic mammography, breast MRI, ultrasound, preoperative localization, and breast biopsy. Real-Time screening mammography reads are available upon request.

You can feel confident that our team will expertly manage your annual screening exams and handle any necessary follow up. We have been offering 3D mammography since early 2013, and our screening programs boast a high cancer detection rate and a low call back rate, exceeding the standards set by the FDA’s Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA).

We offer the full spectrum of breast imaging care:

  • Screening Mammography – A screening mammogram is an annual exam performed as a preventative measure. It is recommended that all women over the age of 40 receive an annual screening mammogram.
  • Tomosynthesis – Often referred to as 3D mammography, this new technology creates a way to see through dense areas of breast tissue using X-rays. 3D Tomosynthesis represents a dramatic leap forward in radiology’s ability to diagnose breast cancer in its earliest stages.
  • Diagnostic Mammography – A diagnostic mammogram is used to look more closely at a specific area of abnormality seen by screening mammography or physical exam.

  • Breast Ultrasound – Often used to confirm the presence of a lesion seen by mammography, and importantly helps determine if it is solid or fluid-filled.
  • Breast MRI – MRI is used both to screen patients at high risk for breast cancer and to more thoroughly evaluate abnormalities seen on an ultrasound or mammogram.
  • Breast Biopsy – In the event a suspicious area is identified, the radiologist will biopsy the area. This minimally invasive procedure takes a small sample of the suspicious tissue to send to the lab for further testing. Breast biopsy can be performed using ultrasound, MRI, or stereotactic guidance.

Seacoast Radiology Recommendation

Annual mammograms starting at age 40

Our breast imagers, along with the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the Society of Breast Imagers (SBI), recommend that women begin annual mammograms starting at age 40 as long as they are in good health. The ACR advises women to have a risk assessment by the age of 30 to see if earlier screening is right for them.

The Breast Imaging physicians of Seacoast Radiology are passionate about women’s health and are committed to doing everything they can to support women as they undergo any of these imaging procedures.
